Pocket Cast IOS app stops playing after around 20mins
-
Hi there. I have an annoying problem with the pocket cast iPhone app where ts stops playing the current podcast after about 20mins (on avg the time it stops varies) you can press play again and the podcast continues but no audio is present. Downloading the podcast locally seems to then allow the podcast to play. Information:
- IOS Version 18.5
- App version 7.92.0.3
- This occurs when running over mobile data
- Have uninstalled the app and reinstalled.
- Have checked sleep settings as mentioned in other forum posts.
- Playing on my phone via the web works okay.
I have been using pockets casts for a little while now and everything had worked fine. I’d say this has occurred for the last 3 months. Hopefully someone can find an answer for me – Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, @andyjessett! When you say the issue occurs when running the app using mobile data, can you confirm that you haven’t experienced the issue when only connected to Wi-Fi?
In any case, the best way to go about troubleshooting this would be if you could please share app logs with us immediately after you experience the issue again. This way, we can be sure that the issue was captured in the logs. I will be emailing you shortly to share more information and how you can get those over to us.

Ah awesome – I was hoping to enable some sort of logging. And yes to clarify on wifi everything works fine. Seems to be just when using the mobile network.

@andyjessett Thanks for confirming that! I already sent you the email, so kindly check if you have that already and we can continue troubleshooting over email.

I have the same problem (seems I am not—there is a thread in the pocketcast subreddit about this). I am not sure if it’s only on mobile. Can I send logs? Can you tell me how? I am seriously considering moving to a different app because it’s been happening so much lately!

I find this happens on older episodes. Often the episode can be coerced to play by telling Pocketcasts to “download” the issue.
Would be nice if there was a “force retry” button

Hey – I was the original poster of this issue. We managed to narrow it down to the issue triggering when listening to a podcast and then moving off network and onto the cellular network (I.e leaving the house to go for a walk). Downloading before you leave the house works but that’s not necessarily ideal. Pocket casts support directed me to enable legacy Bluetooth support to resolve the issue. Initially it did seem to work however the problem eventually returned. I really like the app but sadly moved to Apple Podcasts as the issue got so annoying.

Thanks for the followup Andy. That doesn’t seem to be the problem (I have the issue while sitting in the house and listening on wifi) and forcing a download doesn’t always work either. I can understand why you switched away.
What I think is strange is that when I open pocketcasts on the web, I can pick up right where the ios app hit a dead spot. I guess more troubleshooting is required, as the problem is certainly not fixed/going away.

Hi there, @cavanagh0, and @allenhancock! To help us properly track this down, could you please send us app logs captured right after the issue happens again? This lets us see exactly what the app is doing when it hits that dead spot.
On your iPhone:
- Open Pocket Casts.
- Go to Profile → Help & Feedback.
- Tap “Contact Support” → “Get Support.”
- Make sure logs are attached.
- In the message, include:
- The episode title and show name.
- Approximate time when playback went silent (e.g., “around 22:15 into the episode, at 9:05 pm local time”).
- Confirm that you were on Wi‑Fi (and if you were also connected to any Bluetooth device or using speaker).
Then send that email through the app so it reaches our support team with the logs attached.
Once we have those logs, we can check whether the app is hitting a specific error at that point in the file or network connection, and we’ll follow up with you directly with what we find and any workaround or fix we can offer. Thank you!
