Shutting down the app

Is there a way to shut down the app? There doesn’t seem to be a way to fully shut down the app. It is very aggressive about remaining active. When I leave the gym, I pause the podcast I was listening to, and remove my ear buds. Often, while taking out the ear buds and putting them back into the case, I un-pause the podcast and if I don’t notice right away, I lose my place.
I can’t seem to close the app. Even if I swipe up on Android to close it, once I accidentally hit the pause/un-pause button on my ear bud, it starts again. I just want to be able to close it and have it stay closed.Thank you.

The behaviour you’re describing is actually Android’s media session system at work: when headphones send a play command, Android can restart the last active media app even if you’ve swiped it away. Pocket Casts responds to that signal, which is why closing the app doesn’t fully prevent it from resuming.
A couple of things that may help:
– Intelligent Playback Resumption is worth checking. It’s in Profile > Settings > General, and when enabled it jumps back a few seconds when you resume after a pause. That won’t stop the accidental resume, but it does reduce how much context you lose if it happens.
– The more reliable fix is on the earbud side: most cases have a setting to disable the auto-play/pause trigger when you open or close the lid, or you can disable media controls for the earbuds in Android’s Bluetooth settings. That stops the signal from reaching Pocket Casts in the first place.If you’d prefer a way to fully disconnect Pocket Casts from the media session without closing the app, that’s not something the current app exposes as a setting. If you’d like to see a “stop and disconnect” option added, I’m happy to pass that along as a feature request to our ideas board, which the team reviews regularly as they plan future work.
