Hi @joshuapritt!
Could you try out
app-7.54-rc-3.apkfrom the app’s GitHub releases page. It is a signed apk and safe to install on your phone. You need to download it on your phone and tap the downloaded file to install it.Unfortunately, review from Google for the latest update is still pending and it may take a bit longer due to the holidays.
Meanwhile, it would be great if we can get any update if the fix works for you.

I’m on stable 7.54, and while the issue is definitely improved I still experience it occasionally, especially if it’s the first time I use the earbud controls for awhile. At least it works generally now, so I can live with it, but I never noticed this happening at all back on 7.51 and earlier.
Just for sheer curiosity, could any of the staffers share a basic explanation of what was changed about the way Pocket Casts receives control inputs that is causing these issues with certain headsets? It’s so puzzling

You can find our full findings here, which I hope gives you a bit more context on the issue.

I’m now on the 7.54 stable update but I’m afraid this is my experience as well. Perhaps a little improvement but 9 times out of 10, I’d say the pixel tap commands don’t work.

Thanks Cara, that writeup was helpful. Unfortunately there are a few assumptions in there that don’t match my experience. I don’t have, and never have had, the Assistant feature turned on, so this is unlikely to be related to the issue. Maybe the pixel buds still do something wacky related to this feature even when it’s turned off, but at the very least, it is not dependent on having the assistant feature turned on.
The way it’s written up, it also seems like you are only able to reproduce the issue occasionally. However, for me this issue happens pretty much every single time…maybe one out of 20 taps actually works properly, it happens super consistently (at least before 7.54). After 7.54 is kinda sorta works correctly more consistently, but it still has fits of not working several times in a row (this happened to me last night, I stubbornly kept trying the skip button and it did the issue 4 or 5 times in a row). I’ll be sure to send logs next time it happens.
It sounds like you all need to pick up a pair of Bluetooth pixel buds to be able to really see what’s happening!

Thanks for the update, @joshuapritt!
Our team are trying to replicate the issue but would need more information to see if we are missing anything.
As requested via email, it would be helpful if you could forward your app logs to us after you replicate the issue again. That will help us see what exactly is happening.
To send your logs, you can go to Profile > Help & Support > Get In Touch. -
sorry for the long delay, it’s been a busy couple weeks. I had a good instance happen this morning, and captured the logs and emailed them in. I was skipping forward through an ad section and overshot, so then tried to skip back but it failed at least twice in a row . Hopefully that helps find the issue!

No worries, @joshuapritt! I believe I’ve found your new message with the logs, and we can continue our troubleshooting for you issue over email. Please keep an eye out for my message in your email inbox.

7.56 and it’s hit or miss for me on sprouts Airpods3 on Android Pixel8. Mostly it works but sometimes nothing happens.

I’m really still struggling with this. I’d really hate to have to find a new player. I’m going to try to downgrade to the version before this all started and disable auto-updates. Hopefully someone will post here again if they ever actually fix the issue so I can try again.
anyone else still in the same boat?

Hi @zaphod777 & @joshuapritt!
We’ve made some adjustments to fix these issues. You should be able to see the differences in v7.57.
Please give that a try and report back to us if it has helped or not :)

just thought I’d close the loop here, I’m not sure when or on what version it stopped but I haven’t experienced this issue lately. Thanks for taking the time to patch it up!
