Sonos reauthentication fails

Pocket Casts access in Sonos has expired, but tapping the authenticate button simply opens Pocket Casts to the podcasts tab. No re-authetication occurs, and swiping back returns Sonos to “Pocket Casts wasn’t added.”

Forgot to add: I’m using the Sept. 25 Android release.

Thanks for the detail. This sounds like the Sonos re-authentication flow isn’t completing properly on your end. The Sonos Integration support article has some connection troubleshooting steps worth trying (restarting your Sonos device, checking for Sonos system software updates), but those are aimed at initial setup rather than a broken re-auth redirect, so they may not fully resolve it.

Could you share what happens if you remove Pocket Casts from Sonos entirely and add it fresh using the steps in that article? That would help narrow down whether this is specific to the re-authentication path or a broader connection issue.

Have you tried removing Pocket Casts from Sonos and adding it again? If it still just opens the app without asking you to log in, it could be an issue with the latest Android update.

  • Hi both, and thanks josgarcias for jumping in.

This is a known problem with Sonos and the Pocket Casts Android app, and our team is working on it. When Sonos asks you to renew access, Pocket Casts doesn’t recognise the link Sonos sends. The app just opens on the Podcasts tab instead of the screen that confirms the connection, so Sonos never gets the renewed access and says Pocket Casts wasn’t added.

Removing Pocket Casts from Sonos and adding it again from the same Android phone hasn’t fixed it for people who’ve tried, so that unfortunately isn’t a way around it.

    Something that has helped

One person with this exact problem got it working by installing the Sonos app on a Mac and joining it to their existing Sonos system. They didn’t sign in to Pocket Casts or add it again there: Pocket Casts was already listed in the Mac app, and after that Sonos on their Android phone worked again too.

If you have a computer handy, it’s worth a try:

    1. Install the Sonos app on your Mac or PC and connect it to your existing Sonos system.
    2. Open it and check that Pocket Casts is listed among your services.
    3. Go back to Sonos on your phone and see if your podcasts load.

Whether it works or not, please let us know here. It helps us confirm the workaround for others.

We don’t have a date for the fix yet. You can find more about how the integration works in our Sonos Integration article.

Sorry for the late followup. I never received a notification for the forumassistant’s reply. I did open a support ticket after posting here, and was the person who used the MacOS app to automagically reinstate autborization.

  • @lightwall4366 Thanks for confirming, and no need to apologize for the delay. Good to know it was you, and it’s helpful to have the full picture in one place.

For anyone else who lands here: our developers are working on the Android side of this now. Until that fix reaches the app, if Sonos says your Pocket Casts access has expired, open the Sonos app on a Mac or PC that’s joined to the same Sonos system. In the case above, nothing needed to be signed in or added again there. Just opening the desktop app was enough, and the Android app worked again afterwards.

Once the fix is out, updating Pocket Casts on your phone is all you’ll need to do.
