The Sonos Pocket Casts service is unusable
-
I tried the integration again shortly after responding here, and, at least for now, it appears to be working correctly. That’s great! Glad the test env got some love.

Thanks for coming back to let us know, and for giving it another go after so many rounds where it didn’t work. That’s great to hear, and yes, the test environment finally got its love!
It lines up with what’s been happening behind the scenes. Since the last update here, the rebuilt version of the Pocket Casts service for Sonos has gone live, along with a new way of linking your Pocket Casts account to Sonos. Picking up an episode on Sonos from where you left off in the app should now be much more dependable.
One piece isn’t finished yet: if you stop partway through an episode on Sonos, that spot may not carry back to the Pocket Casts app. Completing that part depends partly on Sonos, so we can’t give a date for it, but it’s the piece still being worked on.
For everyone else following this thread: it’s worth giving Sonos another try. If an episode still starts from the beginning, please reply here with whether you use an iPhone or an Android phone, the Sonos speaker model, and roughly when it happened. That detail helps our developer narrow down what’s still going wrong.

“it appears to be working correctly.”
@rustyshacklefordtaken What do you mean? I’ve reconnected Pocket Cast on Sonos and still the timestamps are not in sync. The episode starts on Sonos from the beginning. That worked several years ago and this is why it’s unusable. In this case, any Podcast app connecting via Airplay works better, so pocket cast is not needed.
For me it is far too simple claiming it “depends partly on Sonos”. I will try it in 6 month again an say good bye to P.C.

Hi @kpy22pr4ry,
You reconnected Pocket Casts in Sonos and episodes still start from zero, which is the one thing that would make the Sonos service worth using over AirPlay. That’s fair, and I’m sorry the reconnect didn’t fix it for you.
What changed recently
The Pocket Casts service for Sonos was rebuilt and reconnected with a new account linking method. Picking up on Sonos from where you stopped in the app should now work. Going the other way, from Sonos back to the app, still doesn’t carry your position over yet.
One thing to try
If the episode was already sitting in the Sonos queue before you reconnected, Sonos may still be holding its old copy. Clear it from the Sonos queue, then start it again by browsing to it in the Pocket Casts section of the Sonos app (your Up Next or the podcast’s page).
If it still starts from the beginning
Please reply here with:
- your Sonos app version, and whether your system is S1 or S2
- which Pocket Casts app you last listened in (iPhone, Android, web or desktop)
- whether every episode does this or only some
That tells us whether you’re hitting something different from what was fixed. If you’d rather we check your account directly, use Profile > Help & Feedback > Get in touch > Get Support in the app, mention this thread, and it will reach us privately with your app logs attached.
In the meantime
On an iPhone, playing from Pocket Casts to your Sonos speaker over AirPlay keeps your position in sync, because the app is doing the playing. The steps are in Playback on TV & External Speakers.

@kpy22pr4ry What I meant by that, is that timestamp seeking behavior is now working *for me*. Start an episode on the phone, open sonos, the episode is at the correct place, play some from sonos, open the phone app back up, the episode resumed from the correct spot back on the phone. Just because it works for me does not mean it will necessarily work for everyone. We’re all on different home networks and client devices, etc. For all I know the next time I use it it won’t work again, was just reporting what I observed. I hope they get it working for everybody
