unable to play podcasts through Sonos app
-
im trying to play the Ben Shapiro podcasts through the sonos app, every time i select an episode i receive an error message “unable to connect to pocketcast”. strange is i have other pocketcasts i follow and i can play all of them. if i use the native android app i can play the podcasts without issue, as well as a web browser. i reached out to sonos support and they weren’t much help since other podcasts were playing correctly. has anyone seen this issue before?\
i have tired resetting both apps, uninstall/reinstall them with the same issue.

Just to clarify, can you check if you can play this podcast on different device, such as your phone?
Additionally, can you confirm the exact names of the podcasts affected, or the share URL of those podcasts so we can test it on our end?
Thanks!

I had the same issue on Sonos app/player. The Ben Shapiro and Dan Bongino Shows would not play on Pocketcast on the Sonos app. Those podcasts would play on pocketcast and other podcast apps but NOT thru Sonos. Didn’t make any difference using sonos on iPhone or computer. Sonos couldn’t find any issue. Eventually both shows were playing fine on Pocketcast on sonos, but NOW Ben Shapiro will not play

Thanks for also reporting this to us, @emailme13606!
Our team were able to replicate the issue too and are looking into the cause of the problem. We will update this thread once we have an update.

I have been having similar/same issue with of the podcasts I listen to through Pocketcast. The All-In podcast works fine on my phone but when I use Sonos I get the error message. This problem has occasionally occurred with other podcasts but consistently occurs with All-In. Have tried resetting and reloading the Pocketcast service on Sonos without success

Hi, @edlanm! Can you share with us the particular All-In podcast you’re referring to so we can add it to our ongoing investigation? We have a quite a few that match.
From the podcast’s page in the app, you can click on the share icon in the upper-right corner of the screen, click “Copy,” and paste the share URL into your reply.

It’s basically all of them. Here’s link to most recent: https://pca.st/episode/32f258fe-766d-4e14-aa13-5aece53dff6b
Also now getting it with all of the Star Tribune Daily Delivery podcasts. Example: https://pca.st/episode/94a1c067-5792-46d9-b132-b8a1c1b74b61

Update: After avoiding updating my Sonos components to be compatible with the S2 controller, I finally bit the bullet and spent the money to do so. After doing this, unsurprisingly, the problems with Pocketcast (and others) disappeared. I suspect the issue with Pocketcast is just an example of what happens when Sonos does the bare minimum to keep the S1 controller and the older system components limping along until we all eventually call uncle or just age out from the older system entirely. Thanks for taking a look at the problem in any case.

I still have the problem. When I try t listen to Ben Shapiro podcast, I get error message unable to play….unable to connect to Pocket Casts. I use the S2 controller and all apps are up to date.

Not a true fix to the S1 and S2 controller app issue, but maybe this will help some folks.
If you are using Pocket Casts on iOS, you can use the Air Play feature and stream to the Sonos devices on your local network.
Hope this helps
