unable to play podcasts through Sonos app

@staff-cara Yes that is the Marketplace I was referring to, thank you!

  • @kutchko just checking, are you using a Sonos S1 or S2 Controller?

If you are using an S1, then there are some limitations to what can be played. Some podcasts use newer HTTPS functionality, which is generally not supported on the older S1 units. That issue will occur with any app you try to play the episodes on.

@staff-joey8 Thanks for getting back to me. I am using an S2 controller. The podcast had been working fine through Sonos (I listened to it daily) until a couple of weeks ago.

Also I just checked and the podcast is working again. I don’t know if anything changed…? It had been failing to play through Sonos for several days in a row, but now it seems to be back to normal as far as I can tell.

  • Thanks for the update, @kutchko! I checked, and it doesn’t look like we adjusted something on our end. So, this might have been fixed from Sonos’ side.

Pocket Casts within the Sonos app has not worked right for me since the major Sonos app update despite numerous and extensive attempts to resolve the issue. In particular, the “New Releases” section usually does not load. Sometimes immediately after reauthorizing the Pocket Casts service, it will work but then it’s like it doesn’t update and quickly lapses into “something went wrong” both on the shortcut I place on the home screen and when you tap into new releases. Sometimes you can tap into new releases and content will appear there but but it’s not current.

i have the same issue with Greeking Out – https://pca.st/podcast/8568cb80-d2c8-0137-1e1f-0acc26574db2

other podcasts play fine but this one says “unable to play … Connection was lost”. It paysy fine in the pocket cast app.

I’ve discovered that the “something went wrong” and “cannot connect to Poctcasts” errors are sometimes caused by the “New releases” list not being updated.. say for instance you click new releases.. and the list doesn’t populate or the list populates, but as you’re choosing a title a new podcast is released meaning it’s available but it isn’t in your list.. all hell breaks loose.. if you click the 2nd podcast in the list it plays the 3rd.. and continues to do so no matter how many times you select the 2nd podcast.. or says unable to connect or something went wrong.. refresh the new releases list, a new podcast or two appear on top and bingo everything works correctly again.

This has been the case for a while.

Android, all software patched up to date.

Samsung S24 running Android 15, or iPad, same behaviour with both, both patched up to date, my Sonos system is 5 x Play1’s and a Play bar V1.

  • Hi there, @stevec400e4d047! Thanks for the device info. I’ve passed this along to the developers.
