media controls in android notifications shade disappear when paused
-
When a podcast is playing media controls are correctly showing in notifications shade and on lock screen. As soon as I pause playback the controls dissapear. Can anyone plesse suggest how to make the controls stay when playback is paused?
I have already checked many relevant settings, specifically:
- “Show media on lock screen” option is enabled.
- I am not using face unlock, “Skip lock screen” (if using face unlock) is not enabled.
- Pocketcast app is set for unrestricted battery usage.
using pocketcasts version 7.74 on Pixel 7a running Android 14.
Many thanks in advance

I’m having trouble recreating this issue on our end. But I noticed that you’re using an older version of the app. Could you try updating to version 7.75 to see if the problem occurs after the update?

Bumping this as the same thing happens on my device.
Samsung s24 Ultra running Android 14 (One UI 6.1) and v 7.79-rc-5 of PocketCast.
When I pause any media being played, the media player widget in my quick settings/notification tray and lock screen will either disappear or attempt to control another open media app (e.g. audible). To resume, I have to open and press play within the app.

@brieflyobject06d9900fbe if you navigate to your device’s Settings app > Notifications > App settings > Pocket Casts, could you confirm whether the Playback notification option is enabled?
If it is enabled and you’re still experiencing the issue, you can navigate to your device’s Settings app > Apps > Pocket Casts > Battery. Could you let us know what battery usage setting you have configured for the app? You can try setting it to “Unrestricted” to see if it resolves the issue.

Thanks @mikerockwell, the first setting (playback notifications) isn’t an option on my device but notifications are enabled and no app permissions are denied.
The battery settings are set to unrestricted as advised.

Hello, I’m having this same issue. I just purchased a new phone (Oppo Find N5) and now if the app is not in the foreground I cannot resume playback. I checked the permissions and it has full permission to use the battery in the background and is allowed for playback notifications. Was this ever solved?

I have the same issue on my phone ,nothing phone 2a,has been like this for a few months now ,every other audio app works ok (spotify, smartaudiobook player ,podcast republic etc)

the option “Hide playback notification on pause” should be disabled. Could you try toggling that setting on and off again and see if it makes any difference? Can you also check your phone’s settings at Settings > Sound & Vibration > Media, and check that the Pin Media Player option is enabled (assuming your phone has that setting)?

I just tried toggling it on, starting playback, then paused.
Then toggled it back off, and the problem still exists. Was worth a try so thank you!
